Pao Rosa (Swartzia fistuloides) has a texture similar to rosewood. While the sapwood is rather yellowish to yellowish-white, the heartwood has a red-brown striped colour.
The wood is hard and dense and resistant to weathering, but not very resistant to fungi and insects. Rather difficult processing requires a certain amount of experience. The wood is used for high-quality furniture, woodturning and in musical instrument making.

Finely grained wood may contain imperfections such as open knots, bark inclusions, or cracks that are typical of the species. These flaws come from the way the tree has grown and are completely natural. They can usually be filled with low-viscosity cyanoacrylate (super glue) and wood dust.
