The coast redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) grows in the coastal areas of northern California and southern Oregon in the USA. The sequoias grow to over 110 metres tall with a trunk diameter of 7-8 metres. The tallest living specimen is about 116 metres high and stands in the Redwood National Park in northwestern California. This makes it the tallest tree in the world.
When it comes to age, too, there is no shortage of work. 600 years is not uncommon for a sequoia. The highest age was determined by annual ring counting at around 2,200 years.
The burl wood is light and relatively soft. However, it is extremely durable and can be worked well.

Finely grained wood may contain imperfections such as open knots, bark inclusions, or cracks that are typical of the species. These flaws come from the way the tree has grown and are completely natural. They can usually be filled with low-viscosity cyanoacrylate (super glue) and wood dust.
