Laurel (Laurelia sempervirens) ©Lin linaoChilean laurel (Laurelia sempervirens) occurs mainly in South America, especially Chile. It is an evergreen tree that can grow up to 100 feet tall. It is a major commodity in the Chilean timber industry, while its flowers, bark, and leaves are used medicinally.
The wood is medium-hard and rather lightweight and can be worked quite well. Unfortunately, there are always cracks in the grain that need to be filled.

The handle block is sanded and coated with a layer of shellac.
This allows you to see exactly the color you will obtain.

Finely grained wood may contain imperfections such as open knots, bark inclusions, or cracks that are typical of the species. These flaws come from the way the tree has grown and are completely natural. They can usually be filled with low-viscosity cyanoacrylate (super glue) and wood dust.
