Bruyère - Tree Heath (Erica arborea) ©Jean-Pol GRANDMONTThe grained wood of the tree heath (Erica arborea) is called briar root.  The tree heath typically grows in the Mediterranean, in particular on La Gomera in the Canary Islands where it frequently grows to a massive 65 feet. Otherwise, it rarely exceeds 16-20 feet in height.
The wood is very hard and heavy. It is THE classic wood for carving tobacco pipes. After the harvest, it is boiled and then dried for months. In addition to its use in tobacco pipes, it is also used to make jewelry. It is really quite difficult to find larger, crack-free pieces.

Dimensions: approx. 200 x 90 x 60 mm, measured across the full lenght
You will get the shown piece!
For better visibility of the color and grain, the piece was sprayed with alcohol for the product photos.

The piece is dry and can be processed immediately

Finely grained wood may contain imperfections such as open knots, bark inclusions, or cracks that are typical of the species. These flaws come from the way the tree has grown and are completely natural. They can usually be filled with low-viscosity cyanoacrylate (super glue) and wood dust.
