The London plane (Platanus x hispanica) has hairy, globular fruits and very striking bark, which is relatively thin, grey, and peels off not unlike dandruff. The plane is a widely used in Europe to line streets. Its immunity to car exhaust makes it predestined to this role. It’s also a grand tree than can reach heights of up to 160 feet, with high crown that spreads out wide.
The wood is medium hard and moderately heavy. It is good for many projects and also quite decorative.
