Bubinga (Guibourtia tessmannii) comes from Cameroon, Gabon and the Congo in Central and West Africa. The species of Guibourtia are evergreen and reach heights between 130 and 165 feet. The straight, cylindrical stems reach lengths of 80 feet and the trunk can be 3 to 6 feet across. These trees have a few buttress roots that can be up , up to 8 feet tall. The heartwood has a reddish color dark ranging from pale reddish to deep red. The sapwood is white to bright yellow. It is also known as African rosewood, although it does not belong to this genus.
The wood is very hard and heavy, but it is be worked well.

Finely grained wood may contain imperfections such as open knots, bark inclusions, or cracks that are typical of the species. These flaws come from the way the tree has grown and are completely natural. They can usually be filled with low-viscosity cyanoacrylate (super glue) and wood dust.
