Wood Atlas - Xylarium

Imbuya Burl

lat. Ocotea porosa

Imbuya Burl

Imbuya (Ocotea porosa)Imbuya (Ocotea porosa) is sometimes called Brazilian walnut, although botanically it has nothing to do with the walnut species. It has a distinctive, peppery smell as you work with it that I find very pleasant.  The tree can reach a height of 130 feet and over 5 feet across. Imbuia can have beautiful burl wood with a very interesting play of colors from light to dark brown, with dark yellow areas.
The wood is very easy to work and medium hard and is therefore highly sought-after for many fine crafts.

Find the right wood by appearance!
Our wood atlas makes it significantly easier to find the right wood for your projects.
But, as you know, wood is a natural product and what us shown here is only
a sample and the actual piece may vary in color and pattern.

Tip: Use the left and right arrows to navigate; to select the wood currently show, click on the link below the image. The wood atlas is by no means exhaustive and is constantly being expanded. But, on the whole, almost all the woods we have in stock are shown.
