Wood Atlas - Xylarium

Pacific Madrona

lat. Arbutus menziesii

Pacific Madrona

The strawberry tree (Arbutus menziesii) is found along the Pacific coast of the USA and southern Canada. It reaches a height of 7 to 40m. The trunk diameter can range from 15 to 150 cm. The smooth and deep red bark is very striking, but flakes off in autumn. The bark layer underneath is initially green, but turns dark brown and forms almost square scales.
The wood is heavy and hard with a light brown to reddish heart. The sapwood is light coloured. The wood has an extreme tendency to crack, shrink and warp when drying. The burl wood in particular is extremely attractive.

Find the right wood by appearance!
Our wood atlas makes it significantly easier to find the right wood for your projects.
But, as you know, wood is a natural product and what us shown here is only
a sample and the actual piece may vary in color and pattern.

Tip: Use the left and right arrows to navigate; to select the wood currently show, click on the link below the image. The wood atlas is by no means exhaustive and is constantly being expanded. But, on the whole, almost all the woods we have in stock are shown.
