Wood Atlas - Xylarium
Amazon Rosewood
lat. Dalbergia spruceana
Amazon rosewood (Dalbergia spruceana) comes mainly from Brazil, but grow throughout the Amazon basin. With an appearance and technical properties like those of Brazilian rosewood, it is often used as a substitute.
The wood is heavy, hard, and dense. It is usually a deep or dark red-brown with black stripes. It has very good sound characteristics which makes it useful as a sounding board for various instruments. It is also well suited for intricate turning work.
