Camphor Tree (Cinnamomum camphora) The camphor tree (Cinnamomum camphora) has its home mainly in Japan, Korea, and Vietnam. It grows between 65 and 100 feet tall, is an evergreen, and a member of the laurel family. The camphor obtained from this tree is a white, crystalline substance used in medicine, as incense, and even as a spice.
The wood is medium hard and moderately heavy. It is very good to work with and the spectacular camphor scent will clear your sinuses as you work with it. Camphor wood is rather good-natured, submissive, and rarely cracks.

Finely grained wood may contain imperfections such as open knots, bark inclusions, or cracks that are typical of the species. These flaws come from the way the tree has grown and are completely natural. They can usually be filled with low-viscosity cyanoacrylate (super glue) and wood dust.
